My fingers hurt, the reason being the replacement of the front shock absorbers on the Land Rover. Fortunately for once I had enough sense to make sure that I had all the parts that might be needed as well as the ones that would be needed in advance, just as well as I needed them. Undo the nuts holding the damper turret in place it says in the manual, well I managed to do this, the only drawback being that they also removed the threads they were attached to - a minor problem not mentioned by the estimable people behind the Haynes Guide, so just as well I had replacement mounting rings wasn't it? And new damper turrets for that matter. The guide also glosses over the fact that in order to remove a small plastic cover you have to drill the fixing screws out as a screwdriver won't touch them. Mind you it also fails to mention that you have to remove the air filter and its mounting bracket (passenger side) and the radiator header tank and power steering reservoir (driver's side). Nor does it tell you the best way to remove the coil springs when you need to replace the turret mounting rings that it didn't tell you to replace.
Anyway to cut to the point of this - don't believe everything that's written in the manual - apart from the disclaimer that what they tell you may not apply to your vehicle

Well, I just take the manual as a guide. I don’t base my repairs and maintenance on it since it only gives us when to expect them, but not the actual day you have to do it. In fact, I did my land rover radiator repair in the much unexpected circumstance.
