Far Too Much Spare Time

Not too long ago I suggested that I (no doubt along with many others) have an ideal Hawkwind set list which would provide me with the ideal gig. I've now taken this idea a little further and I am considering what I would want to have on the ultimate best of compilation for taking onto a desert island if I could only have one full CD of music. (Just bear in mind that this is the sort of thing that happens when anyone clearly has far too much time on their hands and at least I'm not trying to invent cold fusion or anything else that might be an immediate threat to mankind's continued existence). So the votes are at the moment being counted and I will announce the idea list as soon as I've decided on the exact rules i.e. do you include/exclude live tracks and things on B side....as ever watch this space

Cultural Awareness

Tyskie. It's beer Jim but not as we know it. Due to the massive influx of Poles into the UK the supermarkets have responded by starting to stock Polish food and beverages, some acceptable to the palate (Zubrowka, Kabanos) and some not (Tyskie, instant Bigos) and so now with the entry of other countries into the EU I have looked into the crystal ball and predict that before long Tesco et al will be stocking some or all of the following:
  • Halászlé
  • Hideg meggyleves
  • škalondza
  • Veraščaka
  • Kashkaval
  • Tikvenik
and how can we forget
  • caltaboşi

If you want to know what these culinary delights are look 'em up like I had to

Shiver Me Timbers

Avast there me hearties. Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of Turnip Brandy! As it's international pirates day me and Cap'n Squeaky me faithful ol' Giant Rubber Goth Bat entered into the spirit of the thing (Sixteen bats on a dead man's chest) and sailed off in the Queen Anne's Revenge II in search of merchants to plunder and wenches to ravish. Sadly whilst there were plenty of the former there was a serious lack of the latter. Ahhhh! I tell ye shipmates 'tis a sight for sore eyes indeed a Supermarket under full sail and laden to the gunwales with doubloons and pieces of 9 1/2 (inflation strikes again) Sadly the security guards on the good ship Tesco were not quite so enthusiastic and were just not willing to enter into the spirit of International Pirate Day. Some people have no sense of fun. Next year me and the Cap'n'll make the scurvy dogs walk the plank and join the lost souls down below with Davy Jones.

Intermission

I can't really be bothered with any kind of writing or dissection of my mind state today so here are some links to amusing things to keep you occupied:

Social Networking

Full of the joys of summer I foolishly decided to go trawling through some of the stuff on the internet - after all good ol' Russell Grant said it was a good day for meeting new people, so stopping only to read the entrails of a freshly slaughtered goat to make sure that the oracle was not telling me lies I came first to MySpace - there I discovered any number of people who are not up to the job of being my new best friend.
For example there's a woman whose hobby is collecting pigs, she's taken the time to point out that they're not real ones, which is thoughtful as I might have decided to send a couple of Tamworths and a Gloucester old spot for her growing herd if she'd been the sort of person I wouldn't mind meeting on a dark night, then of course there's the guy referred to yesterday (Mister Giant Slipknot tattoo) who not surprisingly lists being a slipknot fan as one of his major preoccupations - although I would have thought an bilateral ear transplant would have a greater priority in his life...so basically either Russell is very wrong or I'm so cynical that astrobabble won't work on me...
