For a change today I decided to have a look at the labels on food and there's just far to much to digest...red tractors, blue aeroplanes, little red chillies, numbers, ingredient lists, allergy warnings, suitability for special diets, healthy eating data, nutritional data and of course labelling of how ethical the food is. Oh and then of course there are tasting notes & flavour/sweetness ratings. And then people have the nerve to complain there's too much packaging - now let's face it when they want all this information it has to go somewhere and that's why there is so much of it because you can't put three sides of A4 on the supermarket shelves for each item.
So just bear in mind the next time you go shopping and want to choose between oranges (ordinary) and free-range line caught "fairtrade" oranges hand picked by Joaquin Cortez and transported to market by his faithful donkey, Pedro...that the generic oranges will have less packing and will therefore be kinder to the environment but won't win any prizes for being ethical...
