It's the day of the elections for the London Assembly - a body which I have no great objection to what I do object to is that we have a directly elected mayor, what there should be is an elected majority party in control of London which has clear policies and from which the Mayor is elected. Mind you while we're at it how come there are only 14 constituencies and 11 directly elected members when there are 33 London Boroughs? After all you can't tell me that the issues that affect Barking & Dagenham are the same as those in Tower Hamlets?
The other problem with this is that it also gives a greater chance that fringe parties with often quite offensive policies can get elected and have a disproportionate say in how London is run.
