Whilst stuck at the traffic lights this morning (the local authority having decided that with only three weeks before the end of the current financial year to go they'd better get in some roadworks or lose their hole in the road budget for 07/08) I had a look at the plethora of contradictory safety notices carefully applied to the contractor's truck.
First of all there was a big yellow label on the tailgate stating that it should not be lowered if the vehicle is on the highway - so how are you meant to get stuff on and off of it then? Then there was one stating that the loadbed was a slippery surface and should not be walked on - again defeating the object of actually putting things there that you might need to get access to - like the tool locker.
Unfortunately the lights changed before I got a chance to read the labels on the cab - but I'm sure one of them must have said that you should wear a hard hat in case you bumped your head getting into the driver's seat.
