A Shot in the Dark

Anyone out there remember what the government promised after the Dunblane Massacre about tighter controls on handguns etc etc and now there's another public outcry as teenagers are being killed with guns in South London. Policy has clearly worked here hasn't it? So no doubt no the current lot in Parliament will go out and recruit a Gun Crime Czar who will be as effective as all the other czars they've created in the past.
Of course the problem here is, as always, that politicians are completely unable to see beyond the here and now and cannot see any further than the next election. Making guns illegal has just made them all the more attractive to the dispossessed and rootless youth who do not have a clear identity and don't feel they belong. Marginalise people enough and look what happens. At the same time we get a resurgence of national socialism/fascism amongst the ill-educated who believe all the propaganda that is churned out about so-called positive discrimination and think that they're going to be raped, mugged, murdered and that the country is being overrun by the latest wave of dodgy immigrants from Eastern Europe.
It's now time to look inwards - stop trying to police the world and look at the problems at home Mister Bliar
