Reading unsolicited job applications and CVs is not something I look forward to. And I lay the blame fairly and squarely with the "get people back to work quick schemes" that government and local authorities seem to be so keen on.
The trouble is, as is so often the case, that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Now to my way of thinking researching about a company means a little more than getting a name and category out of the yellow pages and then just changing the address on the completely inadequate covering letter - and if you're going to claim to have excellent communication skills please ensure that you use them throughout both the letter and the CV.
The highlight however has to come from today's unsolicited pleading for employment. I quote the letter - "I am ensured that you will be most satisfied with my excellent skills and knowledge that I have gained and will be able to utilise my skills for your benefit", We then turn to the CV which lists the applicants previous experience, just to see what benefit the company will gain should we employ this person. Again I quote, "Lingerie Sales Assistant in Vilnius"
Whilst being shown ladies underwear may be of benefit to my mental health, I don't think that the Commission for Social Care Inspection would consider it essential for the well-being of service users....still you never know these days....
