Interview with the Ninja

So just for a little light relief today we decided that we should interview someone who wished to volunteer where I work. Now what I did not know was that this was going to be someone in a hijab, it did little to help that the Boss who has strong views about this sort of thing (he's a Sikh) kept referring to her as a ninja, because they are also all covered up and dressed in black.
And I have to say that I now agree with Jack Straw, it's very difficult to talk to someone who is very covered up - especially when the one thing that you need to assess more than anything else is their communication skills and you are unable to get a good idea about their non-verbal communication in particular.
Fortunately the person in question had little idea about either mental health or learning disabilities and on mature reflection decided that volunteering to go on outings with the severely mad was not her cup of tea and has decided instead that reading to the elderly might be a little more rewarding.
