On Art

I don't want to sound like Brian Sewell here but please could someone explain to me the purpose of some of the alleged art which has been entered for the Turner Prize such as the bloke who has videoed people from Turkish reality TV, or last years winner who dismantled a shed, made it into a boat, paddled off down the Rhine to Basel and then reassembled the shed as "a pilgrimage against the pressures of modernity" - in my world turning your shed into a boat and pretending to be Noah (or whatever) is a sign of incipient detention under section 3 of the Mental Health Act. At least this year they've actually given the prize to someone who in my view is an artist.

I understand that the prize is sponsored by a gin manufacturer - which I believe explains a great deal about the judging.
