Trip to Moscow

I have not been to Russia, merely to Notting Hill on the Central line ( центральная линия ) which for some reason was full of people from Poland and assorted former Soviet Republics. I am unable to account for this at all but I was most surprised on reaching Notting Hill to find that there was no icy wind blowing from the steppes (or from the direction of Kensington Church Street for that matter) nor, indeed were there unemployed East German border guards inspecting tickets in the station. "Incorrect fare - For you Tommy zer journey ist over, we haf ways of making you pay zer penalty fare Ja!"
Now I know that London is a very cosmopolitan city and part of its attraction is that it is a "melting pot" of different cultures, but please please just for once it would actually be nice to hear English (as opposed to colonial english as spoken by our commonwealth cousins) spoken in the capital of Britain. Or is it that the fares are too high for the average Londoner to use public transport so its only the well off economic migrants and tourists that can afford to use it - put that in your Newt pond and smoke it Mister Livingstone!
