Anticrime

Bit of a theme developing around law and order at the moment. Anyway I've just learned something new which is always cause for a brief celebration - right that's enough - you can put the party hats away now. This new thing is the concept of "droplifting" This is where you download mp3s, burn them to disk and make some extra copies with the artists permission. You then take these copies and go into a record shop, deliberately seed the shelves with the cd's and in the words of the bard cause considerable alarums and diversions when someone tries to buy the cd. Good idea for promoting a band or not? Well I don't really know, but it's a better idea than giant inflatable pigs hovering over Battersea or "live" performances in shopping arcades (note that I am not calling them Malls even tho We're all living in Amerika Coca Cola-Wonderbra - Mister Squeaky! Turn off that Rammstein right now I'm trying to think)

Now I'm wondering if this could start a trend and help to subvert the corporate tentacles of the music industry. Just imagine - noxious kids go in to buy latest thing by Girls Aloud only to find inside Goth Idol by Tin Omen (This week's recommendation check them out on MySpace) especially if they start to sing along... listen and grin
