Today is the anniversary of the world's worst terrorist atrocity. A time for reflection on the way the world has changed, a time for grief for those lost in the tragedy and a time for celebration - celebration of the quiet, unspoken courage of those who tried to help others and lost their lives in the process. But so often we forget that paramedics, firefighters and police carry out these acts of courage every day and don't always get the thanks they deserve.
Now look at what has been the result:
The war on terrorism, overt military action which has hardened the resistance against democracy,
Home-bred terrorists in the UK fed by the messages of hate from perverted clerics who twist the words of their god to suit their own agendas.
The removal of certain civil liberties and the freedom to travel.
A polarisation of opinion against the muslim faith because those who hold moderate views do not speak out against terror.
I don't know what those who carried out the attacks on 9/11 ever hoped to achieve - I presume they hoped to be religious martyrs - instead they should be remembered as the destroyers of their own religion and the murderers of countless people in the US, the UK, Spain, Afghanistan and Iraq.
And the final score:
World Opinion 1 : Islamic Terrorists 0
