Phew, nearly finished the dreadful NVQ and have come to the conclusion that it is a totally irrelevant qualification which is designed primarily to make money for people running "training and assessment centres" rather than ensuring that people have sufficient skills and knowledge to manage a care home.
My solution, which may appear to be rather reactionary and frankly "old school" is to have a taught course where people learn to do things like set budget and supervise staff and then they are assessed by completing a management project related to where they work - never catch on though because there are too many greedy bastards who have discovered that they can all have a bite of the EU funding cherry for no real brainwork.
In fact I learned more about the NVQ system from the assessor last Friday than I have over the previous ten months. Sad but true
