How different things are in the States - Paris Hilton has been locked up for breach of parole conditions relating to drink driving, and not a bad thing too as, at least according to the media, she has shown considerable contempt for the justice system. The underlying subtext being along the lines of "little rich girl thinks she's above the law"
Now compare this to that darling of Thames Magistrates - Pete Doherty, frequently arrested and up before the beak for a number of drug and/or alcohol related offences but - to the best of my knowledge - not jailed. What a difference in approach, for once I think the Americans have got it right, treat the celebs as ordinary folk and when they do wrong punish them for it and then hopefully their hordes of adoring fans won't follow in their footsteps.
