One of the worst things about living on your own is that its all too easy to get very bored with your own company. And there are some things you just can't do on your own, but am I disheartened by this? Hell Yeah, of course I am. So you end up spending your evening on things like myspace and other communities filled with people who I imagine are equally lonely and dispirited - or very strange and acutely mentally ill in some cases -I'm sure we all have the experience of someone posting increasingly bizarre bulletins which suggest that they are in need of being medicated with atypical anti-psychotics (another clozapine Vicar?).
But the hardest thing I find is people who don't appreciate that the very occasional phone call or email to ask how you're doing is all that you need to keep going, and then out of the blue they get in touch because they want a favour from you. "Hello mate how are you. Good. Super smashing great. Long time no see, could you come over straight away I need a hand to move the piano" or whatever. Well I've had enough of this and to these people all I have to say is "Stay out of touch and I promise I won't bother you, ask for a favour and I'll be somewhere more interesting instead"
