A Question

Here's a thought for you. If television is as powerful at making people do things as it is claimed- Top Gear makes you drive recklessly, Natural Born Killers makes you want to kill the world and pornography makes you a rapist, then why doesn't the opposite apply? After all I've watched things like Antiques Roadshow and Time Team and have absolutely no desire to become David Dickinson or dig holes in the gardens at Buckingham Palace (at least not to look for bits of old tatt anyway)
People have been exposed to all kinds of government propaganda and public information films and have taken absolutely no notice of the messages that they contain. Somehow I can't help but feel that there is an overriding need for politicians and media to find a nice simple solution to the ills of society and then they can be seen to be tackling the problem - almost always neglecting the fact that they are quite often the cause...
