I've never pretended that I've got any interest in the popularity stakes so I shall now put it on official record that I am pleased that England have been knocked out of the world cup, at least now life can return to some semblance of normality and we won't have any more of those tedious daily reports from the British Zone of Occupation - making it seem like the reunification of Germany never happened. I wonder how long it will be before the inflatable footballers and St George's Flags (Turkish Chap or so I understand so why's he our saint?) are removed from public display.
Unfortunately the nasty little thugs who went to see England play in Germany will be returned home - as far as I'm concerned they should be put in a foreign prison - and the nastier the better - I just hope that they come up with the briliant idea of holding the next world cup in a country with a really bad human rights record.
