Environmental Concerns

Hooray! At last the government have woken up and realised that we actually need to grow our own electricity, and they have ignored the petty concerns of the environmental lobby to agree that nuclear power is not a bad idea - at least whilst we are still friendly with countries who have uranium ore.
Now I really can't see what the problem with nuclear reprocessing is - so what if there are a few luminous seals in the Irish sea and it's not a terribly good idea to go paddling in the sea off of Drigg, and there are concerns about cancer rates (just remember that Cumbria is built on volcanic rock just like Cornwall where there are similar concerns about naturally occuring radiation) at least there is employment in West Cumbria where it is needed and I really would be hard pressed to think of anything that could provide nearly enough jobs if Sellafield closed - unless you want to reopen all the red earth (iron ore) mines - plus you get a really good cup of coffee at the visitor's centre.
