Like most taxi drivers I don't like going south of the river and with good reason. It's just not nice. Okay Okay I suppose that there are little pockets of acceptability like the bit of Greenwich round by the Naval College and Blackheath Village if you can stand Hampstead with a more snobbish attitude (if at all possible) and expensive Belgian designer chocolate shops "How Much?! I only want one not the whole fucking shop!"
So it was with considerable displeasure that I had to go to Eltham this afternoon. Not a treat at all - imagine if you can a half-timbered version of the old LCC estates around Beacontree and Dagenham and you're half-way there. And then into a typical council house, well to be more accurate a stereotypical council house deeply ingrained with years of tobacco smoke and the foul stench of damp dogs. Then getting drooled all over by the horrible canines in question. Leave the place withe the feeling that you could wash for a thousand years and it'll never get you clean again.
South East London. Not Nice. Don't Go. But if you do stock up on antibac soap for when you get home.
