I'm just going to keep on about this because I just cannot believe the amount of hype surrounding Xmas stuff this year, the message is quite clear, what the stores are trying to say is "Be an indiscriminate consumer" and usually in very small print. Take this for example, today I received a mailshot from Homebase - £5 off Christmas decorations - if you spend over £50. Fifty quid would buy me more decorations than I could ever possibly want, mind you £1 would buy me more Xmas decorations than I could ever want..but that's another story.
And then there are all the delicacies that the supermarkets are flooding the shelves with. These are things that people wouldn't normally buy so why make an exception once a year. What sort of person wakes up in the middle of November and suddenly thinks to themselves "I must go out and buy marzipan reindeer and some novelty mince pies in the shape of the Angel Gabriel" After all, we don't get this sort of crap at Easter - all you get is choccy eggs and bunnies and sticky buns with crosses on them, I think there would be some kind of outcry if they started making chocolate crucifixes complete with the little guy nailed to them -mind you I would like to see the look on peoples faces the first time they went on sale.
Hmm, gives me an idea...Chocolate Jesus anyone?
