Car trouble, always when most inconvenient, but at least this time the repair cost me nothing - just a bit of time and effort.
Initial problem - difficulty starting & odd noise, subsequent flat battery, recharge battery & look at alternator belt - loose is to put it mildly, try to tighten belt, unable to do so, why? Pivot bolts that hold alternator on were missing - both of them -believe it or not, obviously the missing bolt fairy has been about the neighbourhood ratchet spanner in hand. I just hope that the bolts are picked up off the road by someone's tyres and spun at high speed into the path of a dustcart and thus break its windscreen. (had windscreen broken by debris thrown up by dustcart around the back of Chelmsford).
Phoned up local Landrover parts people & got sizes for bolts lucky me found just the right ones at home which were I believe paid for by the Mental Illness Never Dies people as "sundries" - so for once they weren't completely useless.
