Seeing as tattoos are currently on my mind, well on my foot actually - I can't believe how sore it is just trying to get a shoe on at the moment, I thought I'd share my well-considered opinions about tattoo design.
Now like most people I can't stand bad tribal - you know the tiny black squiggle that it seems has to adorn the lower back of a certain class of Essex girl, usually badly done by a scratcher and always askew - not that you'd notice seeing as it's a squiggle - now ask them what it actually represents. Thought so. Not a very clear answer was it. The trouble is though I really really like the idea of girls with small feminine tattoos on their lower spine - I find it really attractive as an idea, the trouble is that the tattoos just don't measure up.
Then there are the people that the tattooists dread, I'm afraid to say that my little hippy mate is one of them - bless her little cow-pattern cotton sox - "I want another tattoo - I don't know what it's going to be but I'll know when I see it" I've helpfully suggested that as she has a spider's web that looks just like a trawler net, she should have Captain Birdseye in a nice yellow souwester, a box of fish fingers and the fishing fleet at sunrise. As you can no doubt imagine this idea was not universally popular. More alarming is the fact that her ambition is to become a tattooist, just picture the scene when she gets a customer with the same attitude...'nuff said.
However, at the end of the day what tattooists seem to like the most is people who come in and give them an idea and then let them have free reign to design a piece of custom art. So go on give it a go.
