Petty Officials

There appears to be an inverse law with petty officials, the less their power the more self-important they become, and the more defensive they become when challenged about what they are doing. Take park keepers for example, what kind of pleasure do they get from ordering small children to stop cycling in the park (on a cycle route) - especially as they are usually patrolling the park on bicycles themselves.
This morning I had a grinning idiot dressed in bright yellow hurl himself in the path of the faithful Landy to stop the traffic to allow one, I repeat one, child to cross the road whilst there was a small invasion force of kiddies assembling outside the sweet emporium next to the crossing. This chap managed to stop not only myself but two buses, a dustcart and an ambulance in his efforts to exert his authority. I'm sure I've seen his face on a wanted poster for nazi war criminals.
Well perhaps not but almost every time you challenge one of these minor officials they always seem to quote the Nuremburg defence "I was only acting under orders". Perhaps we should tell them of the outcome of this defence for Rudolf Hoess, Kommandant of Auschwitz - death by hanging. I'll use this for the next one who tells me that I can't park there as it's blocking emergency access whilst they have managed to block the access quite satisfactory by having an ambulance wheel clamped - and yes this did happen at King George Hospital. I couldn't make it up if I tried.
