...never having to say you're sorry, blaming everything that happens on your poor mental health. Ignoring the fact that ultimately you are in control, denying that you have responsibility for your actions but then claiming that you are sane when you are detained against your will as a danger to others because of the behaviour for which you claim you are not responsible. All makes perfect sense doesn't it.
Of course, on the other side of the coin are those who are genuinely disturbed by what is going on in their mental life, those who are afraid of what the system and society will do to them, and often with good reason. Those who need to be protected from others who will expoit them. These are the people who often need the most help but never receive it, whilst those who claim insanity often do so as a defence against prosecution or to abrogate their responsibilities.
And now we can look forward to a new mental health act - which I have grave concerns over and I suspect it's going to be a lawyer's paradise.
