I watched the two-part end of season CSI written and directed by Quentin Tarantino today. It was supposed to be something special as Tarantino is alleged to be one of the best directors around. It wasn't. It was profoundly boring (thank the Goddess for the fast-forward). The imagery was shite, the story was shite, the acting, which is usually very good apart from Marge Helgenberger (more wooden than oak), was shite.
Now let's compare this to ER, ER experiments with direction and storylines, focussing on one character or one part of the emergency room, they use interesting camera angles, subtle use of light and shade, creative use of dialogue and believable characters. ER is kept interesting and fresh because of this.
Tarantino on the other hand has an undeserved reputation. Swearing, violence and gore may appeal to the more primeval viewer, but they do nothing to enhance my viewing pleasure unless of course I'm watching my new programme idea Celebrity Director Alligator Wrestling Whilst Wearing a Suit Made Out of Raw Meat.
