It appears that in the light of the London bombings our libertarian government has decided to log all electronic communications that the citizens of the UK make. If this is to prevent terrorism I can only imagine the joy at which the civil servants at GCHQ have greeted the news that they are going to have to wade through the multitude of purposeless emails that are sent every day. I presume that the least favoured members of the workforce will be given the task of reading the "herbal viagra" and "improve your sex life" spam which most of us fight to keep out of our inboxes. The good news about this is that perhaps it will stop the brainless prats who insist on cc'ing their messages about their dull and mundane lives to everyone in their address book.
The more sinister view is to assume that our communications will be closely examined should we commit any kind of offences and then all the people that we have been in communication with, for whatever reason, will be rounded up as co-conspiritors, At least that would be just deserts for the dragon of a receptionist at my GP's.
I can hardly wait until this is challenged in the courts as an affront to human rights. Now let me see, who's married to a leading human rights lawyer who could stand to gain substantial sums of money from any such court case? That's right Uncle Tony. Jobs for the cronies methinks..
Must go I think I can hear the forces of right battering down the door...
