Polish for Beginners
We have a new care worker, who quel surprise is Polish, this may be a good thing or it may not. In my role as Jack of All Trades I have the joy of trying to explain things to this woman - regrettably my polish is probably just as bad as her english, this tends to lead to some difficulty and much sign language. Just try to imagine how you would explain Health and Safety at work requirements, the basics of infection control and various other essentials (like don't go looking for gas leaks with a naked flame unless you really want to be the first Pole in orbit) to someone who does not understand a lot of what you are saying and you can't understand them either with only the aid of a whiteboard and a box of markers and a limited ability in Makaton (sign language for learning disabilities). And then you wonder why I'm feeling just a touch jaded in the evening. Still what do you expect if you're paying the minimum wage....
