Brand Alley

Some stuff is really amazing and wonderful apart from one thing - the name. So why do they do it? I mean who on earth would really want to buy a cooker with the word "SMEG" emblazoned on it in big shiny letters - unless of course they are a fan of Red Dwarf? And then of course there is Ikea who bring a whole new level of inanity to things - would you want to fill your house with objects that when you are asked by visitors what it is you have to answer "Oh that - it's a Snotti, doesn't it look really good in that fabulous new colour they call Klopp (sputum green to the uninitiated)"

And then there are those familiar things that are renamed for no obvious reason - marathon bars, opal fruits and jif - why do they do this? Is it possibly a diagnostic test for early onset Alzheimer's - which is revealed when you are unable to complete your shopping because the brand names have been changed beyond all recognition and you just can't remember that Spanko! is the new name for your toilet cleaner
