The Drugs Don't Work

Now pay attention to Herr Doktor Squeakenstein, Full-time Giant Rubber Goth Bat and part-time Mad Scientist and philosopher, "Zer Drugs they are not verkin ja? Zis is because zey are not gut for you und I should be knowink zis as a Doktor of modern philosophy you are understanding this. Zehr Gut."

Strangely enough the government appear to be realising at last that there is quite a significant link between the ingestion of large quantities of psychedelic drugs and mental ill-health. How come then that this is a problem that was quite well recognised in the 60's when there was considerable experimentation with LSD and other hallucinogenic materials, but appears to have been forgotten by liberal minded guardians (ahem!) of public morals until now.

When I was working in acute mental health it would be fair to say that the number of people admitted with drug-related issues was starting to become a problem, and no doubt by now this is reaching the size of a pandemic and swamping already hard-pressed extremely low quality services.

Why do I describe mental health services as low quality - simple - shite management, poor morale and an apparent policy of devaluing the staff who care to the point where they leave and go and retrain as dustmen. Don't be fooled by the nurses are poorly paid argument - I for one would be better off working for the NHS - make the conditions and and management better and I'd happily return.
