According to Old Squeaky's Almanac and Book of Days today is St George's Day - patron saint of England, Freemasons, Scouting and same sex marriages - hmm I feel there's a definite trend developing here....
Anyway I've been looking into this a bit as they're having a celebration down at the Axe and Swastika with all kinds of cultural events - wrestling the greasy pit bull, pin the crime on the illegal immigrants and many other things of cultural relevance to right wing chav scum. And here's a thing I've noticed - the Irish Flag does not say Ireland on it; everyone recognises the Welsh flag with the red dragon and the St Andrew's cross of Scotland, so why then does the Cross of St George require the word "England" to be written across it, unless of course the people who are waving it around with a sense of national pride (well bigotry and hatred if we're truthful here) can't remember what country they come from. Now add to this the fact that Good old George was actually Turkish and therefore it might just be a little more appropriate to celebrate with a shish from the local kebabery and there you are - meaningless pride and jingoism with little or no historical basis.
Must go Mister Squeaky's just woken up and is hollering for his Snake and Pigmy Pie (Teach him to go shopping when he's drunk a vat of turnip brandy)
