I wonder if the press would be making quite so much fuss if Prince Henry was Princess Henrietta and had trained as a nurse and was going off to practice her trade in the NHS in a battle-torn A&E department somewhere in Sarf London. Somehow I think that all the stories would be full of words like courage, duty and self-sacrifice and not about how risky it all is.
So why all the noise when the bloke has gone off and got himself a career and wants to do what he's trained to do, at least he's doing something of use - although my view is that our forces should never have been sent to Iraq but that's a whole different thing - unlike his uncle who has a dubious reputation for making fifth-rate documentaries and not seeing his Royal Marine training through to the end.
And whilst we're on the subject of Royalty, something I am not greatly in favour of I'll be the first to admit, if we've got to have a king when the current occupant of the throne pops her clogs can we ignore Charlie and give his son the job as I think he'll do a proper job.
