Electric Blues
The not-so-trusty Landrover was picked up from the car hospital on Thursday evening and caused no end of panic getting home, this was due to the lighting failing, the temperature going off the far end of the gauge and no charge getting through from the alternator. Now as the water pump had just been replaced this was obviously the major suspect - all sorts of belts to the alternator and whatever. So anyway start the thing up on Friday to go to work and lo and behold all is working fine. Start up in evening to go home and troubles return with a vengeance - so in the interests of finding out what the hell is going on I pull over and turn the lights off, temperature returns to normal, alternator is putting out plenty of charge - problem is down to electrics. Get home and find earth lead to the battery is loose and also does not like being moved too much. Now I've had all sorts of odd things happening with the car electrics over the time I've had it - all minor niggles, all intermittent and all guaranteed to be working well whenever you ask someone to have a look at it. Nice to know that it's something cheap to fix for once.
