Going Underground

Just returned from the good ol' Ruskin, playing tonight Subterranea - described as being influenced by Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. Well that's very accurate, I can close my eyes and imagine hearing them as part of the Arena documentary on grunge "No Nirvana", but this is not to say that they are dated in any way, they come across as being fresh and dedicated to their art, their unique selling point is quite clearly the vocal talent of their singer Paula. What I'm most reminded of is Pearl Jam's excellent track "Jeremy" but as it should have been done. My opinion for what it's worth - 8/10 - points lost due to relatively static performance from guitar and bass (not good from the old photographer's viewpoint).

However, once again the band have been let down by the sound - engineer late, so sound check late and band left waiting - not exactly professional and the dreaded monitor failing once again. This happens on a regular basis and is not exactly the sort of thing one expects from a venue which relies almost exclusively on its reputation - which I think is being lost rapidly. So don't complain to me about falling numbers at gigs when all you have to do is ensure that the bands are able to perform at their best Mister Promoter.
