America suffers natural disaster and it's front page news. Appeals from relief agencies in the states are not generating a great deal of sympathy across the globe it seems. This seems unfair as people are suffering greatly, but then so they were after the Tsunami , after the floods in central Europe and after assorted earthquakes in the Middle East, and where was the aid from the world's richest nation then?
Why should the American Red Cross be having to appeal to the public, where is the government money to aid their own people? Could it be that the war on terror and the occupation of "Iraqistan" is costing the Bush administration far more money than they are saying?
But worse than this is that the Islamic fundamentalists are claiming that this tragedy is part of a punishment from Allah for maltreatment of the Iraqis and Afghans. Now if I was a god, and a vengeful one at that, I wouldn't start by picking on America, I'd start off by smiting those who had twisted the meaning of religion to suit their own ends. Then I'd have a go at globalised industries which have a poor record of exploiting third world nations. And I'd rush through a new commandment along the lines of "Thou shalt not wear personal lightning conductors"
